Research Associate - Employee-in-training
Two-year position
Requirements:
Ph.D. in Economics, or a related field. Labor economics,
regional economics, and/or environmental/energy economics
preferred. Demonstrated skills and experience in statistical
analysis, familiarity with key US data sets on labor markets and
the economy, and demonstrated skill writing for diverse
audiences. Demonstrated ability in written and verbal
communication with the general public as well as with academic
audiences.
Job Duties:
The Center on Wisconsin Strategy (COWS) is a national policy
research center and field laboratory for high-road economic
development, based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. COWS’
work is collaborative, experimental, and evidence-driven.
Working with a variety of project partners, including business,
government, labor, and communities, COWS experiments with new
ideas in high-road development and governance and disseminates
those with promise.
This is an excellent opportunity for an economist or other
social scientist to conduct rigorous research on applied topics,
as well as participate in policy analysis and development at a
leading center of progressive policy innovation. The Research
Associate will work closely with other senior staff in
designing, leading, and disseminating COWS’ work. Specifically,
we are seeking an economist or other social scientist to: 1)
Design and conduct research in program areas which would
contribute to critical policy debates. Key policy areas of
interest include labor markets and workforce development;
regional economics and industrial policy, and/or
environmental/energy economics in the nation, region and state.
2) Publish the results of research for best practice monographs,
papers, and other influential publications including academic
journals. 3) Present the research results to a variety of
different audiences, e.g., practitioners, public officials,
academics, etc. 4) Assist in leading the research work of
graduate-level research and project assistants.
Salary: Competitive with experience.
Term of Appointment: This position is a two year appointment.
